Homemade treats can be healthy and delicious, to your rat. Recently today I was thinking of a way to make something healthy for my rats. And there sitting on the table, was a jar peanut butter. I then looked at the label to see how healthy it was. On the Nutrition facts label it said that in every 2 tablespoons there was 3 grams of protein. It also said that peanut butter is high vitamin E. Remember vitamin E helps prevent Mycoplasmosis - to learn more go to my "Mycoplasmosis" article. - I also had craisins - dried cranberries - which are also very healthy. So I tried making healthy, rat, peanut butter cookies. First you get a cookie tray and put enough wax paper on top of it to cover the whole tray. Next place lots of flour on the tray. Then on top of the flour, place as much peanut butter as you want. Then sprinkle craisins on top. After that put more flour if needed, as much as the peanut butter can absorb. Put enough flour so its like cookie dough. After that make all the peanut butter in to little balls about 1/2 inch by 1/2 inch. Make sure there is a craisins in each cookie. After that take the wax paper out from under the cookies. Place them back on the cookie tray and stick them in the oven. Turn the oven to 350 degrees and let them bake for about 8 minutes. After that let them sit for about 30 minutes. See how your rats liked them, my rats loved them. Please feel free to tell me in the comment box how your rats liked them. You can also tell me any recipes that you made up that are good and healthy for your rats in the comment box.

(raisins will work just as well instead of craisins)

Wow! I made these for my rats and they LOVE THEM! Thank you so much for this new healthy snack idea!
in all honesty i used to feed my old mouse reeses pieces. he loved them
I gave them to my rats but they only sniffed it then left it there, But when I put it in there house one of them nibbled on it, But not that much.
i did this, but i also added their hesalthy blocks by crushing them, so my rat would eat the blocks and gain a little weight. Very helpful! They're baking now...
My rat loved provita biscuits and rice cakes. With peanut butter of course. I only bought organic veg that was pre washed and I put it in the steamer for 3 minutes. Sunflower seeds are also cool but fatty so limit the amount you give your baby or he will become a telly tubby. Only use baby products to bath your rat and DON't use baby oil! They groom themselves and get sick from the oil. Their skin doesn't dry out from a bi monthly bath. Not steppin on ur toes rat man. Jus tryin to help. L
haha that is a great idea!!!! i am soo gonna try that!
one of my old rats had mycoplasma and the vet gave me some pills for her. i had to compound them because they can't make a rat size pill and they won't take it. it was this peanut butter thing with a touch of vanilla. she LOVED it. she's been gone about four or five years now but all the three rats after her have loved them too. i make them without the meds. thanks for the new ideas!
What I did for my own homemade treat was this:
What you need: Half of a smashed banana, plain oatmeal, cheerios, yogurt.
What to do: Put the cheerios in a bag and put it on the floor. Make sure the bag is tightly shut. Step on them to smash them to a dust. Put it in a bowl. Then dump some plain oatmeal in the bowl as well. Mix it. Smash half of a banana in a bowl. Dump that in the mix and stir. Then put a whole container of yogurt in the mix. (You may need to add more cheerios and oats if the yogurt makes it seem too...yougurty) Stir the mix and leave in the fridge for a couple of hours. When you take it out, it should be soft. Cut it into little rat sized portions. If it is still to wet then you can bake it for a couple of minutes.
omg im making these my rats will love them
Be careful about the treats you feed your rats. Craisins have added sugar, so they aren't the healthiest. Also, read the ingredients on the peanut butter. Some has added sugar, some doesn't. I only fed my rats natural food (they died at 2 and 3 years old). Great blog, by the way, Rat Man! You may want to use spell check, though.
